Smooth as Hell (Studs in Scrubs Book 3) Page 4

“Maybe, but mostly because it didn’t take you long to move on. What was her name again? Isla Meyer? There’s another one you weren’t dating for intelligent conversation.”

“Hey there, Jayde. Your claws are showing.”

  “I’m only telling the truth.”

“Oh, and Ace was a scholar?”

  “Touche.”

“I think this is the first time you and I have been single at the same time.”

“I guess you’re right.” Her heart pounded hard against her chest. She took a long sip of beer and swallowed loudly.

  “Every. Single. Time.”

She wondered if he realized he was always the one with a new hoochie mama on his arm. She kept silent.

  “Probably a good thing too.”

“How so?” She worked her bottom lip.

“We don’t have to be worried about jealousy from a partner.”

“And why would a partner be jealous? What you and I did was a long time ago and we certainly haven’t been friends.”

“You can tell yourself that, but I think we both know it’s not entirely in the past.”

The weight of his stare made her body sing a hymn. The butterflies in her stomach flittered. Her palms grew clammy, even holding the cold bottle.

“Uhh…what? Do you have a point?”

His eyes darkened and the heat of his stare grew hotter. “I’m not too proud to tell you that I’ve wanted a kiss since I saw you at mom’s get-well party. That little dress you were wearing…wow! I think you had every man in the place drooling.”

Bringing the bottle to her lips, she drained it. She couldn’t believe he even noticed what she was wearing that day. She’d specifically found the prettiest dress she could find and felt happy knowing it worked. “You were with what’s her face then.”

He laughed. “Yes, I was still with Danika. Maybe that’s why it didn’t bother me too much when she decided to sleep with my friend. I already knew that it wouldn’t last if I was having fantasies about another woman.”

So, not just a kiss, but also fantasies?

She had the urge to fan her face, but kept her hands steady.

Words were lost on her tongue and all she could do was stare in a flabbergasted response.

“Is this a one-sided feeling, Jayde?”

Damn. He expected her to respond? She debated on whether she should lie, but he’d see straight through her. “A kiss? Yes. You do kiss pretty good, if memory serves me correctly.” Her laugh sounded more like a squeak.

He leaned closer, so close she caught a scent of soap and masculinity. “Trust me, your memory is correct.”

  “This line of thought…conversation…is dangerous.”

He studied her, soaking her in like a water to sponge. “You don’t want to kiss me?”

  “Yes…no! I mean…honestly, I don’t know.” She laid her hands on her knees. “I…”

His smile told her that he found her amusing. “Spit it out, sweetheart. Say what’s on your mind.”

His whispered words released one lock on her wall. “Okay. Well…I didn’t have any clue that you wanted to kiss me.”

One brow shot up. “Nah. You had to know.”

She gave a quick shake of her head sending damp tendrils of hair slapping her cheeks. “No. I don’t consider myself your type.”

“If you weren’t my type, I wouldn’t have slept with you.”

“Yes…but…” She dampened her lips as if that might help lubricate the words. “You did have a few drinks that night. What do they call that? Beer goggles.

“Is that what you’ve believed all this time? It takes a lot more than a couple of beers to give me beer goggles. I was sober and disappointed that we didn’t have another chance. You’re beautiful.”

A jolt shot up her spine. Why the heck hadn’t they had this conversation long before now? Her bare toes curled. Her cheeks flushed. Again, she was speechless.

“Aren’t you a little curious what it would be like a second time?” His tongue came out to sweep along his thick bottom lip.

“I’ve thought about it a few times.” Liar. More like a million times.

His features burned with desire. “Ah, so I wasn’t imagining it.” There was a sliver of uncertainty in his words that made her tremble.

A man like Merf doesn’t feel uncertainty, does he?

“I-I, you’re a sexy man…you know that.” She plucked at the frayed hem again. If she wasn’t careful she’d wind up unraveling the entire thread, like what was happening inside of her now.

“It drove me crazy not having Allison and Devon around for many reasons, one of those just happened to be them not keeping me updated on your shenanigans. I had to find out through my mom.”

The feelings in her were much like being in a pool, holding tight to the side. “You say this, all of this, but why the other women? Especially Danika?”

He gave a small shrug. “You’re going to think I’m a dick if I tell you why.”

“You don’t have to tell me, but I am curious.”

“Danika was beautiful. Great body. But not much else. She’s the kind of woman a man wants when he wants one thing without the commitment.”

Her mouth fell open. “That’s horrible.”

“I told you you’d think I was a dick, but still, I never made any promises to her and she knew where I stood. Hell, in the end maybe that’s why she jumped ship and went for the raft. I can’t say I blame her if that was the case. Good sex can only ease so much.”

Jayde didn’t want to think of Merf having sex with Danika, or anyone. “I agree.”

“She also knew I wanted you. She confronted me on it once. I denied it, but after I examined my feelings closer, I knew she was pointing out a fact.”

His words were as smooth as rich chocolate. Every syllable was a seductive dance, and yet, he didn’t really need to do much because she’d been on the edge for a long time. “This is a bad idea.”

“For you? Because it sure as hell ain’t for me.”

“We’re both reeling from fairly new break-ups. You know what they say about rebounds…”

“Rebounds only count when you’re in love with the person you break up with.”

  He did have a point.

Oh shit. What was she doing? She had to resist him. Didn’t she?

If things weren’t swirling around in her head enough, he reached out and grabbed her hand, his warmth seeping into the center of her bones. Her mind shifted into overdrive and she was bombarded with images of them lying in bed, naked and exploring each other. Him entering her in a hard, heated thrust…

Not only did she imagine it, but she felt it. Her body oozed into the chair, her inner thighs moist with need. Her nipples pressed the material of her shirt as she attempted to swallow the cotton ball feeling lodged in her throat. Why did she have to be such a sucker for those sparkling eyes and the dimples bracketing his dazzling smile.

“It’s not like we haven’t kissed before.”

“That was a long time ago.”

  “Yeah, too long.”

With her free hand, she clutched the arm of the chair. “When you say it like that…”

  “Does it trigger something?”

She swallowed. “Yeah…something.” Following the plump line of his lips made her heart pound. The strong bow could make her every wish come true. How could one man seem so perfect, even when she knew that wasn’t true? He was perfectly flawed from the small white scar above his left eye. One brow was slightly lower than the other. The cleft in his jaw. Wasn’t this what she wanted? Merf wanting her in return? What the hell made her afraid to experience one of the sweetest things she knew existed?

Her heart. A man like him could find his way inside of her most precious part and rewire everything she knew.

He was a heartbreak waiting to happen.

Yet, if she didn’t grab this chance, she’d be kicking herself in the ass all the way back home.

  “Okay. You’ve convinc
ed me. One itty bitty kiss.”

He smiled and the tension grew. His eyes did a victory dance.

Her pulse tripled in speed. Her mind blurred.

After all the fantasies, she was finally going to kiss Merf again.

  *****

Merf couldn’t believe he was a hair’s width away from kissing beautiful Jayde. If she looked closely she wouldn’t miss the shaking in is hands. Him? Nervous? He couldn’t remember the last time he’d been so worked up over one kiss. When it came to Jayde though, it would be more than just a kiss. Nothing was ever ‘just’ with a woman like her.

He hadn’t always wanted her as deeply as he did now, not even that New Year’s Eve when they’d found themselves in the guest bedroom, naked, and going at it like wild lovers. When he’d first met her, he’d thought she was cute, like a little sister or a good friend. Devon thought of her as a little sister and Merf guessed it just rubbed off. He hadn’t realized she was a woman—a real woman—until they’d seen each other at a friend’s barbecue and they’d gone boating. There were many available women there that he could have set his sights on, and probably would have wound up in bed with that evening, but something about Jayde had his interest piqued. Instead of wearing a slinky, dinky bikini like most of the women at the gathering, she’d kept on her T-shirt and cut off shorts as if she realized it would drive men crazier wanting to catch a glimpse of her body. That turned him on. A woman who didn’t swim mainstream, but took a different, unique path. Yeah…that was a complete turn on.

After that, every time he saw her he was like a puppy to its master. Although, he’d managed to not slip up and fall at her feet, making a complete fool of himself. She had been like the forbidden fruit to a hungry man.

The tipping point had been the New Year’s Eve party. He’d asked her to dance, although no one else was, and he’d been in for the shock of his life. Holding her in his arms, held hostage by her enticing scent, had turned him cross-eyed.

Things had gone from fun to serious in zero-to-sixty.

He’d been struck, like an electrical shock to his system, and he couldn’t get over how attracted he was to her.

Now, all he could think about were her breasts, her hourglass shape, and her smile that beckoned him like a lighthouse. He’d spent most of the day wanting her, salivating over her every move.

Luckily, they were both available and could do what they wanted.

When Merf wanted something, he’d do anything to get it and, by golly, he wanted her more than he wanted his next breath. He was finally going to sample her lips again.

Before she changed her mind, he hurried up from the rocker so fast that the back struck the side of the house, but he wasn’t concerned about that. He took her hand and pulled her up, dragging her against him—feeling her firm breasts against his chest. The way her hips brushed his body and how she molded against him had his zipper stretched.

The breeze caught her shampoo fragrance and sent it under his nose, spiking more bittersweet feelings in his cock. He was as anxious as a race car lover at the Indianapolis 500.

She opened her mouth to say something, but he cut her off when he buried her mouth under his. A scintillating tingle traveled through his veins, knocking him for a loop. She tasted so good, and felt even better.

He glided his tongue inside her mouth as a whimper traveled up her throat and he sucked up the sound. She relaxed against him, wrapping her arms around his neck.

He had all good intentions of taking things slow, exploring her mouth, but the raging emotions spiraling through him turned him from a gentle puppy to a raging dog in a matter of seconds. And when she groaned and her tongue tangled with his, she pulled his collar.

Tilting his head, he got a better angle of her lush mouth while he threaded his hand into her hair, loving the sensual feel of the silken mass. He couldn’t imagine another woman being this amazing—this soft. He wanted to touch her, but God help him, where would he start first? He lowered one hand to her shoulder and slowly followed the line of arm to the slender dip of her waist and the flare of her wide hips. Smoothing his hand over her ass, he retraced his path until he reached her ribcage and to the underside of her breast. His knees threatened to give out and he concentrated on his uneven breaths to get them under control before he fell flat on his face. All his blood was draining to his cock.

With a tremor in his hand, he cupped her breast, running his thumb over the hard nipple through the soft fabric. She gasped and arched her back slightly.

He longed to have it in his mouth, and other delectable parts of her.

She might stop him before he got started, but for now, there was no stopping this scorching kiss.

Lifting her, she wrapped her legs around his hips as he carried her through the screen door and into the great room where he dropped her onto the couch. She bounced, but his weight against her paused her movement and he went to work kissing her neck, nuzzling the slender line as her fingernails clawed the cotton of his shirt.

Then his mouth was on hers again, sipping her sweetness like a fine wine.

He could feel her passion. How she demanded more with her touch. He loved how she wanted him as much as he wanted her.

He reached for the hem of her shirt and she pulled back. He stared down at her doe-eyed gaze and the plump pink pout. His breaths came in pants. “What, baby?”

She blinked. “We—this—it’s moving all too fast.”

She was right and her words brought him back to reality. Jayde wasn’t just a fuck to him. He could try and tempt her with more kisses, maybe even get a lick at her most secret part, but he wanted her to know that she held the reins.

“You’re right. I’m sorry. I’ve gone too far. Too fast.” He started to pull back only to have her clutch his shirt into her fists and drag him back in for more kisses. She was on fire.

Her fingers came at his zipper and she squeezed as if to test his readiness. Yeah, he was ready alright.

Her body trembled and she pulled back again. “Shit!”

“What is it?” Damn. He could barely fill his lungs with air.

She crawled out from under him and took a position standing almost ten feet away.

“Before this happens, we need to talk.” She tilted one hip.

Talk meant serious discussion and he wasn’t sure he could get his voice to work, not yet. His body was still on sex mode, ready to throw all caution to the wind and slam into her. They could talk later. Hell, he’d talk all night if his cock wasn’t so hard.

Did she realize a man couldn’t think and have a hard on at the same time?

No. Her expression told him he’d either behave or she’d close the door shut for any more kissing or ‘cuddling’. Fuck.

“All right. Shoot.” He sat up straight and stretched his legs, trying hard not to focus on the bulge behind his zipper.

  “I’m on the pill.”

“Great. I figured you were. An independent woman like you knows how to take care of herself.” He reached out a hand and she took a step back.

  “Condom. Do you have one?”

  Fuck yeah.

He had to respect a woman who thought of those things.

  “Yes.”

  “Let’s see.”

He blew out a long breath and fumbled for his wallet. He sure hoped he had one. When he peered in and found one foil wrapped condom, he almost jumped for joy. He slapped the packet down onto the table. “Good?” He lifted a brow.

  “Almost.”

Hell, what more was there? They had the time and the protection. “Okay.”

“Just so you know, I-I’ve been checked. I don’t have any diseases.” Her cheeks turned pink. He wondered if it was the same color as her pussy lips? He was hell bent on finding out no matter how hard she was trying to sour the mood.

“Same here. Sounds like that sums it up.” He started to reach for her again, but she shook her head.

“Not so fast, ram-rod.” She smiled

  Their gazes connected. A
pin could have been heard dropping to the floor.

“No commitment. We’re adults agreeing to have casual sex. If you don’t call, I’ll be okay. Vice versa.”

  He smiled. “Really?”

She slanted her head to one side. “Yes, really.”

“Okay. If that’s what you want.”

“I’m not holding you accountable if we don’t see each other again, not like I had before. I get that we’re not wanting to make this messy.”

  “Sounds like a plan.”

“There’s something else. We can’t do it here, not on Allison and Devon’s sofa.”

He narrowed his gaze. “They won’t mind, Trust me.”

“But…well…it’s just not a good place. This is their house and we should be respectful.”

He laughed, but it quickly fizzled. “Okay, but technically, it’s ours now.”

“And that...,” she pointed to the deer head. “It’s just weird. It’s like it’s watching us.”

“Then where, babe? My room or yours?” He hated to push things along, but he was about ready to break a few seams in his jeans.

“Yours.” She didn’t wait for his affirmation. She darted for the stairs and he was right behind, his gaze targeted on her tight buns in the shorts.

Once they made it to the top of the stairs, she stopped and turned to him. “Did you grab the condom?”

He held it up and slapped it against his palm. She grabbed his hand and practically dragged him into the room. She turned and met him, reaching for the hem of his shirt “This has got to go. I want to see your torso. I could play the drum on your abs.”

He laughed. “Thank you, I guess.”

He didn’t hesitate in helping her drag the shirt off. He’d keep going if that’s what she wanted. When a beautiful sex goddess spoke, a smart man listened. He gave the shirt a toss over his shoulder.

“Let’s get yours off. I’ve been going crazy wanting an up close and personal view of these breasts.” He could only stare as she heaved her blouse over her head and threw it aside. “Fuck! Just fuck!”

He was a goner. Her breasts were exquisite, firm and heavy, practically spilling out of the bra that was more of a torture device for men. The lacey slip of material was see-through black, and her hard nipples were framed by milky globes that his palms ached to hold.
