Sorry to bother you doctor, but I have a serious problem.”
“And what’s the problem, Miss?” Sam Saxour looked at the beautiful brunette with bright blue eyes who was relishing a lollipop. She was leaning against the doorjamb, one foot propped against the frame.
“I have a little fever.” She pulled the lolli from her plush lips with a smacking sound and fanned her face dramatically.
His body tingled and the hairs on his neck shot up, just like another part of him.
“Come, have a seat.” Sam patted the end of the bed, still untidy from last night. He skimmed his gaze down her red tank top and black yoga pants to her slender ankles where the remnants of finger bruises were evident on her pale skin. “How are the ankles?” Guilt slithered through him.
“Amazingly sore, like the rest of me.” She flushed.
She must have just come from her beach class because her hair was pulled up in a ponytail and the damp top clung to her ample breasts. Her hard nipples pressing against the fabric made it obvious she wasn’t wearing a bra. He barely kept his tongue from falling out of his mouth as he took in her hour-glass hips down to her legs that went on for miles as she sashayed her way to the bed. He had a feeling she put an extra dose of sexy in each step.
“Right here, doc?’ She pointed at the end of the bed, smiling.
“Yes, there.”
“Looks like someone forgot to make his bed.”
“I dragged myself out just before you showed up. I was…,” he grinned. “kept up most of the night.” Literally.
Lolita, as the pretty brunette called herself, sat down and slightly parted her knees. He quite envied the seam of her pants. She rolled her tongue around the ball of the sucker, then popped it back into her mouth only to remove it again. Damn. He’d never enjoyed watching a woman suck candy more. Sweat beaded on his forehead and he couldn’t blame it on the Florida heat, although he could fry an egg on the sidewalk. Hell, he could fry an egg on Lolita’s hot ass.
“Yoga was great this morning. All the stretches and moves smoothed out the kinks,” she said in a soft, sensual tone.
Sam knew exactly how athletic she was because he’d had the pleasure of examining her closely over the last week, every stunning curve and dip. Her five-foot-five, luscious body had him in knots. He opened his black, medical bag, took out the stethoscope and went to her, kneeling on one knee. “I’ll listen.” He pressed the chest piece against the area over her heart, his knuckles brushing one firm breast.
“Am I okay, doc?” Her eyes twinkled.
“Better than okay.” He winked and rubbed a hand down his stubbled cheek.
For six days, they’d had sex, tried every sexual position…christened secret places on the private vacation resort. Although he’d learned her variety of moans, whimpers, and passion-filled moves, he knew there was so much more to explore about this mystical woman. His body quickly agreed and he became rock-hard.
Lolita paused in her sucking, holding his eyes as she seductively dragged the stick from between her pink, moist lips. His jeans grew tighter as he tried to concentrate on the beats of her heart through the stethoscope.
With a twirl of the stick between her fingers, her smile spoke erotic poetry. “I have a suggestion,” she said in a low, alluring tone that vibrated his balls.
“What’s that?” His own voice shook. Lowering the chest piece, Sam no longer cared about his doctorly duties.
“I could use a dose of the medicine you gave me last night. The salty cream remedy.” Her eyes danced as she rolled her tongue along her top lip, making things even harder.
Sam blew out a breath.
Coming to the luxurious resort to get away from the city, he hadn’t planned to get caught up in an exciting affair, yet when he’d spotted her sitting under an umbrella on the white sandy beach, he couldn’t help himself but ask what she was reading. Lolita. He’d been intrigued.
A sucker for a smart woman with pale blue eyes and a beguiling smile, she’d triggered his every need. Reminding him that six months without sex could be considered a death sentence. Within hours of meeting, they were tearing each other’s clothes off in his bungalow, going at it like wild animals. Every day since they’d spent together, probably more time in bed than at the oceanside. They’d made love until they were satiated and sore…and bruised. He couldn’t complain though. Best damn vacation he’d had…ever!
Not only was she beautiful with long, dark hair and a flawless, wide smile, but she was nothing like he’d ever known before. She’d made it clear from the beginning that she had no plans to share any personal information about herself, and had no desire to know anything more about him than the very present. This way they could enjoy having sex—lots of sex—without feeling as if they owed each other something. He couldn’t say he’d been offered a no-strings-attached temptation on a silver platter before, but what single, red-blooded man would turn it down? At first, he thought he’d been handed a gift, so to speak. What man wouldn’t want a rendezvous with a gorgeous woman in an exotic location? And then, as the end of the week grew closer, he’d found that he wanted to know more about Lolita and wasn’t quite sure he was ready for things to come to an end.
When she slid her foot out of her flip flop, he followed her movement as she skimmed her toes along his calf, making a path up to his inner thigh, close to his throbbing crotch. His body twitched, tweaking an image of how he’d slammed his cock int
o her repeatedly last night, and how responsive and giving she’d been, how she’d clawed his back in her passionate fury. He’d had lovers before her. Some were younger than him, and a few were older. He guessed Lolita was close to his age. She had the maturity and the skill of a woman who knew her way around a man. There was something about her that he’d missed in all his other lovers. She made him feel things he’d never experienced.
Asking her age was off limits—too personal.
Her amazing body was fit and succulent, making him crave her every waking moment. He’d enjoyed fucking her slowly, then fast, just as she’d begged him to do. He’d brought her orgasm after orgasm until she’d clung to him, drenched in sweat and engulfed in pleasure. Sam never had more fun in his life taking her every night, in every position.
Although it was against the rules they’d established, he found himself longing to ask her the things that lovers asked. He craved to hear his name fall off her lips. He also tossed around the idea of inviting her to visit him, allow him to take her on a ‘real’ date. Show her the sights in Chicago, maybe even attend a baseball game or two. Take her to the theater. Would she walk away if he extended the invitation? That was why up until now he’d walked a fine line, but tomorrow they would be leaving the resort. The vacation would be over and so would their hot-as-hell nights.
Her toes brushed his fly so lightly that he thought he could have imagined the act.
With his cock so hard that it hurt, he groaned as she wound a piece of his hair around her finger. His gaze met her intriguing stare that had him spellbound, teasing him to her will.
“Is that a frown I see, doc?”
He hadn’t even realized it. He watched her play with the sucker, using her tongue to lick and tease the little pink ball, making tiny sucking sounds of enjoyment that he knew she made while giving a blowjob. His cock stretched the zipper.
She tucked her bottom lip between her teeth while looking at him with innocent eyes.
The woman was a professional tease. He would have pegged her as having an exotic career in making a man’s every dream come true, but he believed he was a decent judge of character. She had all the makings of a classy woman who had spent most of her life caged up in an uptight lifestyle and now was letting loose for the first time. He was glad he could be of assistance.
This only fascinated him more.
Well, it was time he tested the boundaries.
A man sometimes needed to take command and he, for one, had to know if there was a chance, even a sliver of one, that he and Lolita could continue what they’d started six days ago. Placing the stethoscope to the side, he held her gaze as he leaned closer, inhaling her scent, a mixture of cherry and musk. A part of him wanted to rip the yoga pants from her tight body, slam into her and thrust his way to a release that wouldn’t take long to achieve. Yet, he couldn’t ignore the part of him that had questions. Craved knowledge.
“What is your real name?” He kissed her lightly on the lips.
She blinked. “Don’t you like Lolita?”
“Lolita’s a pretty name, but I’m curious.”
“We’ve been through this.” She stiffened.
“I know, but aren’t you curious too?”
Leaning against him, her breasts rubbed his chest, and the feeling was almost a detour for his interrogation, but he found every available ounce of strength to combat the torturous need growing in his body.
“Can’t we just enjoy each other? No expectation or promises?” she asked.
“Time is coming to an end.” He grinned. “I want to tell you more about myself, know more about you.”
Her expression paled some. “You’re a doctor and very good with your hands.” She wagged her brows and slowly walked her fingers down his chest, pausing at the waistband of his jeans.
He threaded his fingers through her silky hair. He had nothing to lose in being honest with her. “I’m wondering if you’d be interested in coming to Chica—”
She pressed her finger against his lips. “Shh! Don’t tell me.”
“Why not?”
“Because I want to remember this time as being perfect. I don’t want to have any regrets.”
He pushed himself up to sit next to her. “If it has been perfect, what would be the regret?”
“I don’t want our time together to be ruined by reality.”
“Wow, some way to be positive.”
“Come on, doc. At my age, I don’t have any sugar-coated dreams of happily ever after and true love forever. I also didn’t expect to come here and find something I’ve never experienced before. Something I’ll always remember as special.”
“How old are you? A hundred?” She narrowed her gaze. “You talk as if you’re too old for love.”
“I’m only thirty-nine, thank you.” Realizing what she’d admitted, her mouth twisted. “You tricked me.”
“Not at all.”
With a groan, she stood and tossed the remainder of her lollipop into the trashcan. When she turned back to him, the area between her brows was scrunched. “You think you can lure me in with that look, don’t you?”
“What look is that?”
“The sexy-as-sin one that you’ve mastered. I won’t be drawn in. You agreed from the beginning we would have fun. It was understood that we are in this for the week only.”
She was right, he had agreed, so then why did he feel hurt? Rejected? Why couldn’t he man up, except the rules and take her like his body craved? Probably because she was the best thing he’d come across in his adult life and he knew that in the first day he’d met her. If she was just some woman, he’d have her naked and in bed right now. Damn ethics. What was becoming of him?
“No more talk, doc.” She reached for the hem of her shirt and dragged it over her head, tossing it to the side. Her nipples were erect and a beacon for his mouth. “Get those pants off fast.”
And that’s when his last bit of restraint fizzled…

What do you mean the new doctor is running late?” Cassie Yearwood looked across her cluttered desk at her assistant, Bryan, who pushed his wire-framed glasses further up his nose.
“He called and said his plane didn’t touch down until an hour ago. There was a layover.”
Glancing at the clock, her stomach twisted. “I’m due to introduce him to the townspeople and city council in ten minutes.”
ould you like for me to cancel the meeting, Mayor Yearwood?” Bryan asked in a matter-of-fact tone.
“And have an angry town? I’ll receive letters for the rest of my term if we do that. We’ll improvise.” She pushed back her chair and stood, racking her brain for ideas. “How can we stall?” She stopped in front of her assistant.
“We can spike the punch. That should keep them patient and relaxed until the doctor gets here.” He wagged his bushy brows.
She smiled. “True…but no, that won’t work. I can see it now. The new doctor taking one look at a crowd of drunks, turning around and heading back to where he came from. We need him here. This town needs him here.”
“Want my suggestion?” Bryan cleared his throat. She nodded. “Go out and use your charm to keep them interested until our boy gets here.”
“Seriously? We don’t want to put them to sleep before Doctor Saxour arrives.”
Bryan smiled and scratched his chin. “If that’s what you say.”
“What?”
He shrugged. “Since you’ve come back from your vacation, you’ve seemed, well, different.”
“Different? Like relaxed?” She didn’t look him in the eye, but instead concentrated on shuffling a stack of papers on the corner of her desk. For the last three years that they’d worked together, he had the ability to see straight through her. A woman should be allowed to have a few secrets and, in a town of five thousand, it was hard to keep the few she had. She could breathe her last breath and she still wouldn’t confess the events of her trip to the Keys.
“You have a glow about you. The kind of
glow one only gets when she’s been fu—”
“Bryan!”
“When she’s been funning in the sun. And they say I have a dirty mind.”
Feeling flustered with the mere thought of her tryst in Florida two months ago, parts of her sweltered. She picked up a brochure and fanned her face, attempting to block the shower of memories that left her feeling weak.
“Hot flash?” Bryan teased.
“Funny! You only say that because I’m forty.”
“Come on. You look thirty, but have the experience of a sophisticated, mature woman. That’s the best of both worlds.”
“Turning forty wasn’t bad…at all.” Seeing his smartass grin, she dropped the brochure. “Can we get back to work? I have approximately…” She looked at her watch, “four minutes before I have to be out at the podium. Text that doctor. Call him. Send out a patrol car. I don’t care as long as he’s here.”
“I’m on it, boss.” He left the office.
Cassie looked at her glowing reflection in the hanging mirror. Fantasies of her fling certainly did wonders to her skin. Reapplying a coat of lipstick and finger fluffing her hair, she inhaled a deep breath in preparation for standing in front of the crowd. Speaking of…
At the window, she pulled back the thin curtain and looked out onto Main Street, now cluttered with people. More had showed up than she had expected. They were enjoying the catered canapés and punch as they mingled, smiling. She couldn’t blame them for being happy to get a doctor back into Oakland so they didn’t have to travel to San Antonio any longer. Cassie hoped the doctor came prepared because he would be flooded with new patients.
And she hoped he arrived soon.
The only contact she’d had with him were a couple of emails and a glance over his credentials on paper which Bryan had stuck on her desk. When she’d found out that he’d rented an office in town, she’d wanted to roll out the red carpet to make him feel welcome. Since the paper mill had shut down a year ago, they’d lost not only a percentage of other businesses, but also a handful of population, including the only town doctor who retired. As Mayor, people looked to her to prevent any more decline in both.
